Abstract

The paper covers the significance of Lingua franca not only as a language of intercultural communications, but also as a necessary component of the adequate satisfaction of fundamental human needs and of the prevention of socio-economic pathologies. It is stressed in the paper that the overcoming of the language barrier by intercultural communications is one of the key conditions of the further promotion of the concept of sustainable development. The establishment of the regional Lingua franca, in author’s opinion, will further the acceleration of promotion of the concept as well as the formation of the human of the new kind – “Homo sustinens”. In the paper the examples of languages (German, French, Russian) are given, which in fact function as Lingua franca in certain regions of the world. In conclusion, the author draws one’s attention to the necessity of conducting a more solid research of the linguistic situation and to the relevance of the assistance in strengthening of the regional languages of intercultural communications, which are called to become the bearers of ideas of sustainable development.
