Abstract

Bulgaria could to take advantage of its obligations within the EU Development Policy in pursuit of its foreign and economic policy objectives. The paper first discusses some insights from the economic theory related to development aid in terms of the motivation and potential economic benefits for donor countries. It then analyses the responsibilities, the implemented actions and the potential benefits of Bulgaria's participation in international development cooperation. To conclude the paper presents some directions for the necessary future research to assist in drawing up recommendations on the strategic priorities that the country should set in its participation in international development cooperation and in particular in providing development aid.
