Abstract

This research investigates the multifaceted relationship between tourism, economic growth, and carbon emissions in Madagascar. Regression analyses were conducted to examine the impact of tourism receipts on economic growth and tourist arrivals on CO2 levels. The results indicate a significant positive association between tourism and economic growth, highlighting the sector’s pivotal role in driving Madagascar’s economy. Conversely, tourist arrivals were found to contribute to increased carbon emissions, emphasizing the need for sustainable tourism practices to mitigate environmental impacts. Additionally, recommendations are provided for enhancing road infrastructure, promoting ecotourism, diversifying touristic offerings, digitizing tourism services, promoting environmental sustainability, investing in continuous training for tourism personnel, and fostering public-private partnerships to stimulate further development in Madagascar’s tourism sector.
