Abstract

SUMMARY This research is an attempt to be created a concept for a model of a self-sufficient modern barter exchange system (MBES) in Bulgaria. The abstract-theoretical justification for the logical thinking is combined with the practical approach for implementing the ideas in Bulgarian reality today. The object is the MBES as a formal term, which represents the crossing points in the world of many diverse complementary currencies based together with a purposely designated concept of money: "private non-bank money" (PNBM). Complementary currencies are studied preferably as a social fact and quite less as a financial phenomenon. The subject is the conceptual model of self-sustainability. The goal is to find a way for successful application of the model by Bulgarian municipal authority, and the money is defined as "fiscal money". The two concepts are theoretically identical, but in practice "fiscal money" is a specific form of PNBM due to the issuer. The project includes three parts. The first is the theory. The second is the application of the theory. Third part concerns the development of the research by creating a comprehensive research program and proper educational program. A learning game is developed as an instrument for better understanding the model and getting new knowledge. The need for a private non-bank monetary system in Bulgaria is substantiated. Its foundation is not just on a rational reciprocal exchange but also on the notion that the human being is a “homo-loving creator” via sharing, solidarity, and mutual support.
