Abstract

The curriculum and textbooks are among the most influential factors shaping the quality of graduates in the field of economics within higher education. The undergraduate program in economics falls short in achieving its objectives, including the development of professional competence, understanding of the Iranian economy, the Middle East, and the global economy, as well as ensuring the timeliness and relevance of course content. The nine focal points for revising this program include: updating economic theories and their applications; enhancing knowledge of the Iranian economy, Middle East and global economies; strengthening professional skills; improving understanding of banking operations; developing new textbooks in line with advances in economics; integrating economic education with research and academic exchange with leading universities; and promoting specialization within university curricula. The appendix to this article presents the list of undergraduate and postgraduate economics courses offered at the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom.
