Abstract

During the last century, the question of the relationship of sociology and economics has come up again and again. The explosion of material in sociology and in different fields of economics has given rise to specialisation processes within the subjects. The disciplines have multiplied in both the horizontal and vertical perspective, and sub-subjects (sometimes referred to as hyphenated subjects (Bindestrichfächer) in German) have emerged, which provide their own universes of discourse, each with their own scientific organizations. (Economic) sociology should reclaim – empirically and theoretically – new research in which the link between sociology and economics is of relevance. The portrayed developments between economics and sociology and the observed changes within the terrains of economics and sociology indicate sociological opportunities which have to be identified and acknowledged, in order to exploit them intellectually. Due to the discussed convergencies, a series of opportunities result, which provide challenges for sociology and socioeconomics. The list of interesting topics is definitively long and potentially unlimited.
