Abstract

In today’s international scenario, the issue of the food supply emerges as a central point to be discussed. The rising of prices, the population growth, the problem of hunger and the controversy about the bio-fuels, among other topics, make of great importance that agro-exporter countries such as Brazil, examine its role in this framework Having that in mind, the present paper aims to study the importance of the food sector in economies of large expression in the international market: Brazil, China, Germany, India, Japan, Argentina and the United States. For a better comprehension of the characteristics of national food sectors, this work also takes into account the local consumption habits. To do so, makes use of the methodology of input-output, which allows understanding the relationship of this sector with the rest of the economy of these countries.
