Abstract
In this preliminary research, we tried to statistically analyze the facts and to clarify the reality of the subsidy system (direct and indirect) in Tunisia, based on data, meticulously collected via many sources, covering the period from 2000 to 2012. The stylized facts shows that the overall load compensation becomes prohibitive and it cannot be sustainable in the government budget over the medium and long term. Inspired by the international experiences comparable to Tunisia and to overcome the limits or the consequences of such a system of generalized subsidies, we have advanced proposals for reform of the Tunisian compensation system, which nearly all local economists as well as international economic institutions insisted on his replacement in a gradual manner by another system that is better targeted.
