Abstract

Floods are recurrent in the analysis of natural hazards. Characterize and quantify the impact of flooding is a hydrological issue. They lead to very different effects on the natural environment as on human societies. Repeated flooding of Medjerda River is carrying a lot of damage to people, economic activities and the community. The purpose of this paper is the identification and mapping of areas at risk of flooding of the Medjerda River. Mapping of local hazards associated with this phenomenon shows the importance of its spatial extent. We try to offer new tools to blur and to manage of flood risk. The objective of this proposal is to protect rural and urban areas of the Medjerda against floods and the damage they cause and strengthening prevention systems and alert. This will necessarily have a positive impact on the development of economic activities. To carry out the analysis, this paper is structured around three paragraphs. Firstly, we will study the floods and their consequences. Specifically, the analysis explores the position of flooding in the natural disasters as well as the definition and terminology of this phenomenon. Then we will present the hydrological medjerda floods context. We will explain the method for the determination of hydrogeomorphic flood plain and the associated damage. Finally, we propose an action program to reduce the risk of flooding.
