Abstract
The state and the dynamics of development of economic theory have been described in the article. It has been shown that the space of economic theory is in a stage of intensive expansion capturing a part of sociology, psychology and political science. At the same time individual theoretical disciplines are moving away from each other, depriving economic theory of integrity and homogeneity. The prospects for the development of economic theory are outlined, taking into account the existing contradictions between the various components of the theory in the areas of methodology, terminology and typology of the structural components of the theory. The concept of a canon and methods of applying these canons in economic theory have been clarified. These canons determine the direction of the future development of the economic research.
