Abstract
This empirical study investigates the hypothesis that the elderly are much more motivated in the decision to migrate by quality of life factors than by economic factors. The focus is on net interstate migration of persons age 65 and over during the 1965-70 time period. Elderly migrants are shown to be attracted by greater availability of medical care, greater access to recreational facilities, greater amounts of sunshine and warmer climate.
