Abstract
The export of high-tech knowledge-based products is considered highly important for the national economy of developing countries due to its influential role in generating added value and foreign exchange earnings. Moreover, the outcomes of these industries' activities are transferred to other economic sectors, leading to increased productivity and the expansion of businesses. According to many economic experts, the future of economic developments depends on the expansion of knowledge-based activities, innovation in products, and the widespread penetration of such innovations into all areas of production and export. This study examines the policies of developed and developing countries regarding the promotion of high-tech knowledge-based product exports using a panel data model for the period 1995–2015. Considering both price and non-price variables, the study tests the factors influencing the export of high-tech knowledge-based products. The results of the study indicate that foreign direct investment, real effective exchange rate, degree of economic openness, and governance index all have a positive and significant impact on the export of high-tech knowledge-based products in both groups of countries. However, information and communication technology infrastructure is only effective in developed countries and shows no significant impact in developing countries.
