Abstract
Potatoes is considered one of the most important of Egyptian exports, although this crop has a comparative advantage in the domestic production, but its exports has some reduction in the last years to the foreign markets. the problem of this study and the objective are concerned with the circumstances the foreign demand on the Egyptian potatoes, especially the British and German markets. The study estimated Almost Ideal demand system (AIDS), according to seemingly unrelated regression procedure, also the assumptions of adding up, homogeneity, symmetry, and negativity, were included as restrictions in the system. The Data of the study covered the period (1985-2003). Results of the study indicated an increase in quantities exported and the domestic resource costs of potatoes, and also a decrease trend in the real price export of potatoes, while the other variables hold constant and insignificantly statistics. The results of the AIDS model in the British market showed Holland, France, and Spain are the most competitive market to the Egyptian market in England imports of potatoes especially the France market. The results of the AIDS model in the German market showed France, Holland, and Denmark are the most competitive market to the Egyptian market in Germany imports of potatoes especially the France market. Finally, the study recommended by integrated strategy starting from special potatoes production for exporting, and creating new international markets in the world.
