Abstract
Gældskrisens udbrud blev startsignalet til omfattende makroøkonomiske reformer i u-Iandene i 1980erne. De chok, som forårsagede krisen, udgjorde sammen med kraftigt voksende uligevægte i eksterne og interne samfundsøkonomiske balancer en virkningsfuld advarsel. Det blev klart, at de forudgående 15-20 års økonomiske politikker og udviklingstrategier ikke kunne opretholdes. U-Iandene havde ikke andet valg end at tilpasse sig, og makroøkonomisk analyse, som tidligere havde ført en tilbagetrukket tilværelse I udviklingsøkonomien, kom mere i fokus. Det samme gjaldt debtten om rollefordelingen mellem stat og marked. Konservative regeringer kom til magten i flere af de dominerende vestlige lande, og i internationale organisationer som den Intemationale Valutafond (IMF) og Verdensbanken (VB) vandt tilhængerne af den 'neo-klassiske mod-revolulion' frem.
