Abstract
Borooah reviews the major developments in Indian politics from Independence in 1947 till the latest Parliamentary General election of 2014. He discusses the three pillars of India’s identity – democracy, unity, and secularism – and shows the influence of democracy on India’s unity and on the concept of secularism that is has adopted.
