Abstract

The sharing economy (also: sustainability economy, zero marginal cost society, co-consumption or constructive capitalism) could provide a clear impetus for socially and ecologically responsible action regarding the social motivation of the economy and the sustainable use of resources. On the one hand, the diverse innovative business models show how traditional business can be done much more efficiently than in traditional structures. On the other hand, there are enormous risks with regard to data protection and socio-political effects. Here it becomes clear that not only the "good guy" romps with unreservedly social motivation in the sharing economy, but that the pursuit of profit is also the driving force of economic activity in the sharing economy. Not everything is fundamentally different in the sharing economy. The profit orientation in the sharing economy allows the envisaged enormous potentials to actually be realized sustainably. In addition to the technical infrastructure, this requires a suitable legal framework, which represents a good compromise between the promotion of innovation and the protection of norms of social cohesion and solidarity. There will be many discussions in the coming years - both at home and at international level.
