Abstract

This paper aims to review selected texts by Hausman and McPerson, Amartya Sen and Amartya Sen and Anand on inequality and poverty. In terms of inequality, it was synthetically found the need to specify the types of spaces under study, such as resource inequality, skills, etc. and the moral issue involved. This analysis supported the understanding of the relationship between inequality and poverty in Sen. Studying inequality and poverty implies observing human diversity. These diversities involve unique characteristics of people, especially their capabilities. Sen argues that poverty derives from the deprivation of these human functioning. The conceptualization of poverty through income turns out to be limited. Thus, rather than income, other dimensions related to skills need to be taken into account, which can be reflected in metrics or indices that facilitate the identification of poverty.
