Abstract

The report examines the theoretical premises related to voluntary standards at international, European and national levels as "soft" regulators in the field of "green" and sustainable management of organizations. The global standardization system is described, including organizations, the basic principles and activities, as well as the stages of creation of the so-called "de jure" standards. In addition, the concept of multi-model standardization is presented, based on the dynamic interaction between the individual models of standardization on the basis of initiatives of standard-setting organizations, governments and the market respectively. A comparison is made between standards and regulation according to pre-defined criteria. On this basis, the report covers the problems of standards for management systems with a focus on standards for "green" management of organizations. The systematic review of research in Bulgaria in the period 2000 - 2019 reveals a clear trend of increasing certifications according to the international standard ISO 14001: 2015 for Environmental Management System (EMS) and on a much smaller scale registration under the European Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS). The inclusion of these two models of voluntary standards systems in sustainable development strategies is an emerging feature of management of business organizations. All this provides a solid basis for future research related to the implementation of standards supporting the models of "green" management of business organizations.
