Abstract

It has been widely documented at the international level that women face various types of discrimination in the labor market. This paper contributes to characterizing “gender gaps” in the Argentine labor market. Using the Permanent Household Survey (Encuesta Permanente de Hogares, EPH) as its primary statistical source, the paper documents four types of obstacles that hinder the full and quality participation of women in the labor market, as identified in the literature: 1) “sticky floors”, 2) “broken ladders”, 3) “glass walls”, and 4) “glass ceilings”. The article also shows that, although these obstacles affect all women, they do not affect them equally. Gender gaps are larger for poorer women and for those with children.
