Abstract

The ESCAP Scretariate with financial support from the United Nations Fund for Population Activities initiated in 1984 the Project "Analysis of trends and patterns of mortality in the ESCAP region". Six countries including Bangladesh, China, Indonesia, Pakistan, Republic of Korea and Thailand were selected for indepth study and a standard study design was adopted by each country, which could be supplemented where appropriate with additional material and the basic source of information should be national compilations of data.

This report analyses mortality trends and patterns in Pakistan and is organised in three parts. The first part consists of country profile, levels and trends of mortality, mortality differentials and Mortality and causes of death. Conclusions are laos given at the end of this part. The second part provides an overview of health services in Pakistan, recent health policies and implementation, Primary health care, Nutrition, manpower and training health expenditure and private sector health services. The last part of the report consists of a summary and past performance and furture prospects of health services in Pakistan.
