Abstract
The Complex South-Transdanubian Regional Competitiveness Research
The Complex South-Transdanubian Regional Competitiveness Research took place between 2005-2007 in Baranya, Somogy and Tolna counties. The goal of the research was to find out the most important factors of competitiveness. The research used a questionnaire, the answers were analyzed by statistical methods. 48 nonprofit organizations participated in the poll.
In this paper I introduce the most important results of this research regarding nonprofit organizations.
Nonprofit organizations
Two-third of the nonprofit organizations participated in the research has an office, but most of them are only using it, only a few of them has it as an own property. Most of the organizations are cooperating with other organizations, mostly with nonprofit organizations or the local government. Only a few of them have cooperation with profit-orientated companies. The major part of the organizations are operating services, only few have the main goal of fund-rising.
HRM aspects of the research
From now on I concentrate on the HRM aspects of the research. We asked the organizations what type of leadership skills are most important, but unfortunately a lot of organizations could not answer this question. This shows that they do not have proper management knowledge. The few, who could answer the question thought that the most important skills are organizing, leadership skills, creativity and problem-solution.
More than half of the organizations employ mainly women workers. Usually 50-75% of the workers are women. Most of the workers live locally and work full-time for the organization. 17% of the organizations employ disabled people. Most of the employers do not have a problem in finding new workers, because there is a high unemployment rate in the region. Many of them find employees through informal channels and applications for each workplace, Regional Employment Centers play less important role when finding new colleagues. About half of the organizations also accept students for practice.
The organizations use a wide spectrum of cafeteria system to achieve higher motivation of the workforce. However it is not common among the organizations to provide services to the employees which help to increase the healthiness of them. Having computers and internet access is very common in the offices of nonprofit organizations, but the computers are usually old.
