Abstract
The term turbulence, originally referring to continuous and chaotic respectively stochastic changes in the properties of the flow of fluids, became from the early 90ties of the last century a significant and distinctive feature of the business environment. A steady continuous development has in many cases been replaced by fast discontinuities between. The relations between causes and effects are usually non-linear. Small irregularities compounded over time due to nonlinear internal relations and cause unexpected major changes. Any stability is therefore only temporary, short-term. Predicting of the future development is particularly difficult to use given by a limited number of parameters for diffuse and variable environment. The aim of this paper is to describe and to analyze the degree of turbulence (volatility) of a complex business environment in the sample of Slovak small and medium-sized enterprises, to determine to what extent and in which way these companies can focus in integrated European Economic Area, to exist and to be successful in this changing business environment.
