Abstract

The objective of this work is to verify if the initial educational level of women is a determinant of economic growth in emerging economies. To carry out this analysis, a panel data model was estimated for a sample of 14 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, during the period 1980-2014. The empirical results indicate that the coefficients of the variables used are significant and with the expected sign, and that the female enrollment rate at the initial level positively impacts the growth of GDP per capita in the countries of the region.
