Abstract
Afrontamos en este trabajo el abandono escolar temprano, y las consecuencias que tiene en diversos ámbitos relacionados con el mercado laboral en jóvenes de entre 25 y 34 años de edad residentes en 31 países europeos. Para ello, usamos la ola del año 2017 de la base de datos EU-Labour Force Survey, que nos permite, además, controlar por diversos aspectos individuales y familiares de los encuestados. Los resultados, además de confirmar las diferencias existentes en términos de abandono escolar temprano entre países, nos permiten dibujar un perfil del estudiante más vulnerable: sin la nacionalidad propia del país, hombre, y residente en zonas escasa y medianamente pobladas. Dibujar este perfil es relevante porque, en un segundo estadio de este proyecto, confirmamos la correlación existente entre el hecho de abandonar de forma prematura los estudios y diversos aspectos vinculados con el comportamiento en el mercado laboral: disminuyen las probabilidades de estar activo, es más probable estar en situación de desempleo, y llevar en ella más de un año, y se reducen las opciones de estar en disposición de un contrato indefinido y a tiempo completo. Además, quienes abandonan son más proclives a trabajar con cuenta propia, y a desear trabajar más horas de las que están dedicando en la actualidad.
